PV Design Engineer – Midrand
Job description

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Solar PV system design including DC designs, AC designs, main equipment selection for C&I and utility scale plants.
- Energy Yield assessments
- Plant Performance analysis
- Shading analysis
- AC and DC loss analysis
- Cable sizing (DC, AC)
- PV plant layouts
- Single-line diagrams
- Micro-grid and battery energy storage system (BESS) design
- Batterysizing
- Cost estimate and tender compilation
- Feasibility studies and assessments
- Financial analysis and LCOE calculations
- Low voltage electrical distribution network designs
- Medium voltage distribution network designs
- Supply contract management including compiling scope of work, technical specifications, bill of quantities, tender evaluations, negotiation with suppliers.
- Project Management
- Site assessment during project development phase
- Site visits during construction and assisting with on-site testing and commissioning
Desired Experience & Qualification Minimum Requirements:
- BSc Engineering (Elec) or BTech Engineering (Elec)
- 3 years of design and project engineering experience in Solar PV working for EPC, Developer or in Consulting environment for large-scale projects >5MW
- Excellent Technical report writing, and verbal communication skills required
- Proficient with PV design software such as PVSyst, Helioscope
- Proficient with AutoCAD or similar draughting software
- Proficient with Microsoft Office such as Excel, Word, Power Point and MS Project
- Experience with sizing and selection of major equipment such as PV panels, inverters, LV/MV transformers, mounting brackets, trackers, and switchgear (LV/MV). BESS knowledge would be an advantage.
- Experience with cost estimates, BOQ, LCOE and financial analysis for PV plants would be preferable
- Experience with compiling design and tender documents from feasibility stage to advantage. Design and handover
- Willingness to work with various suppliers and partners in the industry – Assertive, confident, and clear communicator – via e-mail, phone and face-to-face
- Excellent English skills
- Ability to work independently, learn fast, organize, prioritize and effectively multi-task to meet deadlines
- Available and willing to travel within South Africa and abroad when required
- Experience in Medium Voltage distribution design would be an advantage
